The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recently released a refreshed version of their recommendations for schools related to COVID-19. This guidance was updated to reflect the most current recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding masking and prevention strategies to help schools operate safely.
As mask use has been proven to substantially reduce COVID-19 transmission in the school setting, it is recommended that the Board of Education adopt the following:
- On the first and fourth Wednesday of each month the superintendent will review the Level of Community Transmission for Macomb County (Low, Moderate, Substantial, High) based on the CDC’s COVID Data Tracker (CDC COVID Data Tracker).
- If the Level of Community Transmission for Macomb County is Low (blue) or Moderate (yellow), the universal use of masks indoors is recommended for all.
- If the Level of Community Transmission for Macomb County is Substantial (salmon) or High (red), the universal use of masks indoors is required for all individuals, except when actively eating and drinking, regardless of vaccination status.
- Any change in masking requirements will take effect the Monday after the first and fourth Wednesday of the month.
